sick during spring break

Did I give it all away in the title? Well that's pretty much been my spring break, well that and work. I had a good first weekend of the break and I think that that's where I went wrong. It was during the cold snap and I was out and having a few drinks and decided to step out to smoke one too many cigarettes in the cold weather, not bundled up. The alcohol tends trick me into thinking I am warm.

Well the ironic thing about me getting this cold from smoking in the cold is, that I haven't had a cigarette since being sick. I have been wanting to quit and I am using this opportunity to do so. It is something that I have wanted to do, and it seems like an ideal time. Wish me luck.

Rainy days

We've had such great weather lately. Blue skies, eighty degree weather and last Saturday a friend and I actually put our swim suits on and layed out. It felt good to get a little sun.

Today, however, there has been a shift on this cold and drizzly day. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to switch the Winter clothes out for the Spring attire yet. Luckily the cold weather gear isn't too inconvient to get to.
Hopefully this front won't be lengthy. It's like mother nature is hanging Spring above me, letting me touch it, and then quickly taking it back, leaving stuffy noses and congestion.

Every now and then, a rainy day isn't so bad. It can give me the chance to catch up on my favorite TV shows that I record, or to guiltlessly sleep in or nap in the middle of the day.

COAL MINERS DAUGHTER

It is not so often that Shreveport, Louisiana invites someone like Loretta Lynn to share her extraordinary talent. I am so grateful that my sister bought me a ticket. She'll be playin' at the Riverdome tonight and I can't wait!

Ever since seeing the movie, The Coal Miners Daughter, I've loved the lady. She sings of truth from her heart and soul and brings you into what she has experienced... and that's what a true artist does.

Attitiude

Attitude is complicated. Thinking of attitude in terms of image, I think of Madonna in the eighties or Prince(always and forever). Other times I think of attitude in terms of someone who's acting bitchy or myself, for that matter, acting bitching. On other occasions, attitude can refer to one's choice in their reaction to a given situation.

I think that one's life is both guided and molded by attitude. People are attracted to positive people as well as positive energy. This can lead to untapped opportunity whether it be new friends, a future love or maybe even a job offer. There is no harm in a positive attitude. Spread the love.

Happy Medium

I started the semester, I take that back the past two semesters, obsessing over school. I believe that you should care, but I was becomming, or have been becomming a little OCD, or maybe a lot. I don't have a lot of time in between work and school, but I do need to make more of an effort when it comes to incorporating a social life into my world. I don't want to completely close myself off. It's a good thing that I'm a waitress-- lots of people all the time. I think that all of the obsessing has a lot to do with my dedication to my studies in the past. I had no confidence in myself as a student, therefore, I would either drop the class or just not go after a while. I didn't believe that I had it in me to graduate. It's all about confidence. As F.D.R. stated, "There's nothing to fear but fear itself."

Yesterday I was at work, waiting tables and in comes that nerdy looking guy from the movie, Juno. I had to look up his name and it's Michael Cera. He played the character, Paulie Bleeker in the film. I actually hadn't seen him come in, but one of my fellow waitresses pointed out the fact, and then asked, or rather, told me that I was going to wait on him. She later said that she gets too shaken up around famous people, so I said, "why the hell not." He was probably 10 years my co-worker's junior as well as just a person, but who am I to judge. He was a nice guy, seemed kinda sweet and introverted, didn't say much. The only other actor that I've waited on was Jack Black about 6 months ago. It's so weird because I was working with that same girl and I never work with her. He had a large group with him but he was very quiet, actually and a generous tipper.

1st times a charm

This writing class is really taking me out of my comfort zone a bit-- pulling me out of the stone age one assignment at a time.

This blog thing is a first for me, but I think it will be cool to share some outstanding clips of everyday life.

This week something pretty funny and embarrassing happened. I woke up late and was rushing off to computer science. I threw on random clothes, brushed my teeth, washed my face real fast, grabbed a jacket and hit the door. I made it in time. So class drug on... (did I mention I'm a dinosaur) and then finally it was time to go. I stood up and put on the jacket on that I had grabbed from the clean clothes hamper. About to make my way to the isle, a girl comes up and tells me that I have panties statically stuck to the hood of my jacket. I looked her in the eyes horrified and asked "are you serious?" as if a personal stranger would say such a thing, and she replied "yes." You would have thought that I'd have whiplash from the combination of trying to look at my underware as well as trying to yank the jacket off... of course I sat on the second row. I just knew it was my hot pink thong. Luckily they were innocent and black with a back drop of my black jacket.
